KARACHI, March 12: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said some glitches have remained to be sorted out although the development work across the city was going on satisfactorily. He stressed the need for a well-knit system of coordination, particularly among the institutions dealing in cleanliness, sewerage, road network and construction of buildings in order to keep the city clean and beautiful and provide best facilities to people.

The governor was presiding over the first meeting of the Coordination Board, formed recently to evolve a mechanism for close coordination among municipal agencies and the concerned federal and provincial institutions. He expressed the belief that with the joint and coordinated efforts by all the concerned institutions.

The governor said that the new Master Plan, which was likely to be submitted for approval of the relevant agency by the end of this month, could deliver only when it was prepared on the basis of accurate figures, particularly those of population.

The meeting reviewed the situation in the city with reference to encroachments, power supply, hazardous signboards and hoardings, haphazard construction in violation of building rules and industrial development.

The governor directed the KESC to take necessary measures before the advent of summer for ensuring uninterrupted power supply in that season by increasing its power generation capacity.

He also took notice of the incidents of electrocution during rains, and asked the KESC to ensure appropriate measures to prevent such incidents. He also called for the disbursement of compensations to the bereaved of such victims.

The governor advised the KESC to remain in touch with elected representatives and cooperate with them in mitigating people’s sufferings. The meeting was informed that the Port Qasim Authority had provided land for the installation of power generating units arriving from Dubai.

Reviewing progress of the Tameer-i-Karachi Programme, the meeting noted that 65 per cent work on the Quaidabad Flyover was completed while the project was likely to be complete by the end of July. It was informed that the work on 13 pedestrian bridges would be completed by March 23, remodelling and renovation of Hino Chowk would be completed by September and the work on Northern Bypass would be completed by the end of this month.
