Police shoot PO

MANDI BAHAUDDIN, March 11: Gojra police claimed to have killed a `proclaimed offender’ in a gunplay near Basaal village on Sunday morning.

Reports said that a police team on a tip-off raided Dera Hashu for the arrest of some criminals. But the outlaws opened fire when police besieged the outhouse. The police also returned the fire. Nazir Ahmed of Ghoghanwali died on the spot while his two accomplices beat a retreat.

Police sources claimed that the deceased was a PO and that two cases had already been registered against him.

Meanwhile, Amjad Hussain Tarar told reporters that the deceased was his cousin. He claimed that the police had killed an innocent person as he was not a PO. He said the deceased was the only son and bread-winner of his family. He demanded a judicial probe.

MOOT: The Pakistan People’s Party, Mandi Bahauddin district, will hold a public meeting at Helan Chongi in Phalia on March 20.
