MITHI: Rich tribute paid to Taj Abro’s services

MITHI, March 11: Rich tributes were paid to leftist activist Taj Mohammad Abro for his outstanding social, literary, political and judicial services on the occasion of his 21st death anniversary commemorated by Bazm-i-Comrade Taj Mohammad Abro at Karoonjher hall on Saturday.

Speaking as chief guest, veteran writer and chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority, Abdul Qadir Junejo, said that Comrade Abro was a towering personality devoted to the cause of the oppressed and downtrodden. “He spent his entire life in serving the suffering and needy people.”

Dr Harchand Rai said that Taj Abro was a founding member of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat and had played a significant role from this platform against One Unit.

He said he was a strong supporter of fundamental rights of the common man and served them without any discrimination.

Former naib nazim of Tharparkar district and social worker Ram Singh Sodho said as a lawyer, Comrade Abro defended the poor without any fee while as a session judge he announced bold judgments.

Mukim Kumbhar said that Comrade Abro rendered remarkable services for the haris of Sindh from the platform of the Sindh Hari Committee and also served as editor of daily Al-Wahid.

Professor Noor Ahmed Janjhi, Haji Mohammad Daal, Bilawal Otho, Daud Saher, Bharumal Amrani and Zahid Otho also spoke on the occasion.

chapter, on Sunday hosted a gathering to pay homage to Comrade Abro.

Veteran leftist intellectual Comrade Sobho Gianchandani in his presidential speech highlighted Comrade Abro’s contribution to the peasant’s struggle and said he was a humanist who loved all, irrespective of cast, creed and colour.

Late Comrade Abro was an open-hearted man who, throughout his life, supported the cause of peasants and labour, Comrade Sobho added.

The secretary of the SAS, Dr Zulfiqar Siayal, announced that the Sangat would organise such gatherings in the memory of their heroes.

He particularly mentioned the contribution made by Comrade Abro during the struggle against the One Unit and termed it unparalleled.

Mazhar Taj Abro, Mukhtiar Samo, Inayat Memon, Sarmad Chandio and others also spoke on the occasion.
