KARACHI: Policeman killed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 11: A policeman was killed in an encounter with armed bandits in the Defence police limits on Sunday.

Police said five robbers broke into Bungalow No C-1 at Commercial Street 13, Phase-II Extension, and tried to take the residents hostage. Upon resistance and shouts for help by the residents, they haphazardly came out and tried to escape.

Two policemen, who were patrolling the area on a motorcycle, took notice and tried to intercept them. The robbers opened fire and shot and injured Constable Muhammad Riaz. However, the other policeman caught one of the robbers.

Constable Riaz, coming from Chakwal, died on the way to the hospital. The arrested alleged bandit was identified as Qasim Anwer, hailing from Larkana.

The police registered a case against the culprits and further investigations were under way.

MURDER: A man along with his cousin shot dead his step-father and wounded his mother in the Quaidabad area.

Police said Waris Khan, 50, and Toti Jan, 40, a widow, had recently got married. The woman’s son Sophi Jan, according to the police, was unhappy with his mother’s second marriage. He, along with his cousin, dashed into his step-father’s home and opened fire, killing Waris Khan on the spot and injuring his wife.

According to police, the family had recently shifted to a rented house located near Akbar mosque in Quaidabad. The police are on the look out for the suspect.
