KARACHI: Immediate relief steps ordered

KARACHI, March 11: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman has directed the emergency control rooms and the departments concerned to ensure effective measures to meet the rain emergency situation.

He stressed the need to remain alert and take necessary preventive steps to check outbreak of seasonal epidemics, particularly in the low-lying areas and Kachchi Abadis by draining out standing water.

Fazalur Rehman asked the health department that hospitals, dispensaries, basic health units, rural health centres and mobile health teams to go into action immediately and provide all necessary medical care to the people.

The chief secretary has issued these instructions in the backdrop of sudden change of weather with the start of rains of spring season. He asked the local department, DCOs and relief commissioners to take due care of the residents in kutchi abadies and settlements in low-lying areas and unplanned colonies to arrange medical facilities on emergency basis.

He called for mitigating the complaints immediately about power and water supply and the need for draining out standing water from their localities through close and effective coordination.

He said in case of power breakdown, water should be supplied to people through water tankers and generators should be used if needed.

In order to meet any untoward situation, the chief secretary directed all DCOs of coastal districts including Thatta and Badin to ensure that all the officials concerned should remain alert and monitor all rain-affected areas.—Staff Reporter
