Balloon-seller killed in cylinder blast

LAHORE, March 10: A balloon seller died while his son injured critically when their cylinder exploded while filling gas in balloons during birthday ceremony at a house in Defence here on Saturday evening.

Rescue 1122 and police said the blast occurred at 15-E near Masjid Stop where Bilal Ahmad, 55, and his son Aamir Hamad, 12, were inflating balloons for the children of the house owner.

Bilal died on the spot while Aamir was rushed to National Defence Hospital.

The victims were residents of Rachna Town.

BODY FOUND: The body of a man was found from the city canal at Thokar Niaz Baig in Hanjarwal area on Saturday evening.

Police said some passers-by spotted the body of a 55-year old man, later identified as Siddique Masih, and informed the police.

The police said Siddique, a resident of Fazlia Colony, Ichhra, had left his house for a morning walk along the canal in routine. He might have suffered a stroke and fallen in the canal.

Mukhtar, the son of Siddique, told police that he had reported disappearance of his father to the Ichhra police when he did not return.

He said Siddique had been suffering from mental disorder and had an attack of paralysis but he used to take morning walk whenever he felt normal.

The police handed over the body after necessary formalities.
