PESHAWAR: Merger of UCs to be discussed with Centre

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, March 10: The provincial government has decided to raise, with the Centre, the apprehensive merger of six union councils of Haripur district into the federal territory in the wake of the expansion of the Margallah Hill National Park, officials told Dawn on Saturday.

The Chief Minister’s Secretariat has directed officials of the district revenue office to send details of the areas likely to be hit by the project designed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

“The provincial government has not yet officially received details of the proposed project from the CDA or any other federal agency. Even then, we have directed the local authorities to gather information about the areas that may be hit by the project in line with the directives of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat,” Board of Revenue’s senior member Shah Wali Khan said.

He said little information was currently available about the project and its effects on the province’s territory. The issue would be taken up with the Centre once a tangible proposal was received by the provincial government, he added.
