ISLAMABAD, March 9: The consultative meeting of Pakistani envoys on foreign policy matters concluded here on Friday with a broad brief from the top leadership to step up economic diplomacy, emphatically articulate the government’s perspective on key issues and mobilise expatriates to advance the country’s interests.
Pakistan’s envoys from Afghanistan, China, France, Iran, India, UK, UN and the US participated in the closed-door deliberations that covered political, economic and other important aspects of foreign policy.
The two-day meeting ended with the envoys making a host of recommendations on how to proactively respond to the challenges Pakistan faces on bilateral, regional and international fronts.
Without going into the specifics, a senior diplomat told Dawn that in view of the recent controversial developments comprehensive recommendations have been framed on relations with the US and ongoing cooperation in the war on terror, Afghanistan, peace dialogue with India, the Kashmir issue, the Iran crisis, Iraq and the nuclear issue.
These recommendations will in turn be transmitted to the president and the prime minister, sources said.
