KARACHI, March 9: Speakers at a demonstration on Friday warned that if the government remained indifferent towards the US intentions to attack Iran, people would launch a massive movement it.
The demonstration was organised by the Jamaat-i-Islami outside Masjid-i-Nauman, Lasbella Chowk, after the Juma prayers. Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, Nasrullah Shaji and Yunus Barai were among those who spoke on the occasion.
They said that rulers of all Islamic countries had held a summit in Saudi Arabia and issued the Makkah Declaration, which warned that attack on any Muslim country would be considered as an attack on the entire Ummah. The declaration also resolved to counter any such attack jointly by all Islamic states.
The speakers regretted that the Makkah Declaration had not been followed when Afghanistan and Iraq were attacked.
They said it was becoming clear now that the United States was creating grounds for attacking another Islamic country, Iran, and added that the Ummah would not more remain inactive if any ruler of an Islamic country refused to join hands against the aggressor.
They said acquiring nuclear technology was a right of every nation but the West was striving hard to keep Islamic countries defenceless and to ensure its success, it was using different tactics to block their access to the technology.
They said while the US was holding negotiations with the North Korea on the nuclear issue, it was threatening Iran with aggression, which exposed its double standards.
They also condemned Gen Pervez Musharraf’s remarks that in the event of attack on Iran, Pakistan would be protected first. They said Islamabad’s silence over aggression against Iran would be considered as support to the US.
