Gavaskar reappointed

DUBAI, March 8: Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar was again entrusted with the responsibility of heading the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) revised Cricket Committee.

Gavaskar's reappointment at the recent ICC board meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, reiterates his ability to serve a key ICC position. The Indian batting maestro, who was last year given a one-year extension, has once again been appointed at the helm.

Under the revised terms, a 12-member Cricket Committee for the first time appointed two representatives of full-member teams, including Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara and Australia’s Tim May, who heads the International Federation for players.

Meanwhile, Saleem Altaf, Director Cricket Operations Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will represent the cricket boards. Saleem was picked after Martin Snedden of New Zealand and Duleep Mendis of Sri Lanka made themselves unavailable for the position. — Agencies
