DERA GHAZI KHAN, March 8: A gathering of women, mostly veil observing, on Thursday got an opportunity to share experiences and highlight their struggles and contributions to several important spheres of life.

The get-together was meant to mark the International Women’s Day and was held at the Kot Addu committee hall under the banner of Hirrak and Sindhoo Bachao Tarla in which hundreds of women participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Rizwana appreciated the historical struggle of women across the world for achieving the day dedicated to their services and recognition. She also recalled the UN secretary-general’s speech in 2005 in which he s aid, “there is no development without development of women.”

Ms Ayesha of Hirrak said the discussion of intellectually corrupt men and women on the women’s day supported the interest of the establishment. “The real question is of working class women and the oppressed ones whose resources are being usurped.”

The Sindhoo Bachaoo Tarla representatives, Saidan Mai, Zainab Mai and Amna Mai, highlighted their experiences of struggle which “they would continue till achieving their demands.”

Later, a play titled ‘Meera Jee’ was performed by the two organisations.

The participants called for the media trial of minister Zille Huma’s killer and described the act as conspiracy. They demanded that the homeless Seraiki women should be provided with shelter and abolition of contract system in fishing.
