India thrash Dutch

TRELAWNY (Jamaica), March 7: Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate's five-wickets heroics proved too little as India eased to a 182-run victory in a World Cup warm-up game on Tuesday.

Skipper Rahul Dravid top-scored with 74 and Sachin Tendulkar made a fluent 61 and raised 116 runs together for the fourth wicket to guide India to 300 for nine on a slow pitch which helped the slow seam bowlers in the Dutch ranks.

Indian slow bowlers then took over to strangle the Cup minnows for runs, dismissing them for 118 in 37.5 overs.

Netherlands batsmen were out of depth on a slow pitch as Yuvraj Singh grabbed four for 12 with his occasional left arm spin. Leg spinner Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh took two wickets apiece.

South Africa-born ten Doeschate stole the show in the morning to finish with five for 57 after joining Dutch handyman Darron Reekers to reduce India to 82 for three.

He removed Saurav Ganguly (19) off his first ball and bowled fellow opener Virender Sehwag (28) with an in-coming delivery before adding the scalps of Yuvraj Singh (14), Mahendra Dhoni (21) and Harbhajan Singh (0).

However, Dravid and Tendulkar calmed any nerves in the Indian dressing room after negating the Dutch slow medium bowlers on a slow pitch.

Dravid and Tendulkar struck five fours and two sixes apiece.

Ten Doeschate, seen as key to Dutch hopes of impressing when the tournament starts, scored 31 before Kumble trapped him leg before as the difference in class showed. Opener Bas Zuiderent top-scored with 32.

Netherlands innings ended when Yuvraj claimed the last two batsmen off successive balls, finishing with four for 12 off just 3.5 overs.
