China to solve border issue with India

BEIJING, March 6: Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing voiced confidence on Tuesday that a decades-old border dispute with India would eventually be resolved.

“I believe the two peoples have the wisdom and capacity to find a proper solution to this issue left over from history,” Li told a press conference. “This was something imposed on the Chinese and Indian peoples when they were not masters in their own homes. It was imposed by the western colonial powers.”

China and India appointed special representatives to address the issue in 2003, and they have met for several rounds of talks since then. New Delhi claims Beijing occupies 38,000 square kilometres of Indian territory.—AFP
