Controlled explosion causes panic

By Our Correspondent

KOHAT, March 6: The military bomb disposal squad exploded a bomb in the firing range near the KDA Township causing panic here on Monday night.

The bomb had been found in Nawakalay area on Sunday. It was a home-made device and the military squad was not expecting it to explode so loudly.

Local people called newspaper offices and Rescue 15, which did not know about the incident, and rumours spread fire in the city.

Police officials confirmed that the military had exploded a bomb which could not be defused. Police were also put on high alert after the explosion, whose sound was heard in a 10km range.

The district administration had not been informed about the planned explosion.

Officials alleged that reports telecast by a news channel had caused confusion as it did not mention the cause of the bomb explosion.
