WARSAW: A Polish appeal court on Tuesday reduced by half the jail terms for six Indians found guilty of killing an Iranian who smuggled them into the country.

The court rule they did not intentionally killed the human trafficker who had held them to ransom.

The six men from Hariyana state in India had been sentenced last year to between eight and 12 years’ jail for the murder of the Iranian who had received $10,000 from each of them.

The court cut their sentences to between three and five years for unintentional manslaughter.

The six paid a travel agency in India $10,000 each in 2004 to be taken to Moscow, from where they were handed over to the traffickers who were supposed to smuggle them into Germany, the PAP news agency said.—AFP
