Allow Geelani to go abroad, India urged

OCCUPIED SRINAGAR, March 5: Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani is suffering from cancer in his sole kidney, an aide said on Monday, urging India to allow him to go abroad for treatment.

“I don’t want to keep the Kashmiri nation in dark. Geelani is suffering from cancer,” Mohammed Ashraf Sehrai, a close aide of Mr Geelani told a news conference in Srinagar.

Geelani, 72, heads the faction of the region’s main separatist alliance, the Hurriyat Conference, which supports union with Pakistan. The ailing leader had one kidney removed two years ago.—AFP
