WADA refuses to withdraw appeal
ISLAMABAD, MARCH 5: The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) has said that despite the exclusion of fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Muhammad Asif from Pakistan’s World Cup squad, it will not withdraw its appeal from International Court of Arbitration for Sports against PCB appellant committee for lifting the doping bans on Asif and Shoaib respectively.
“We have no plans to withdraw our appeal against PCB committee,” Fredrik Donze, WADA media spokesman told a private TV channel on Monday. He said WADA still believe that lifting the bans was an unfair decision and “that is the reason we challenged it in the Court.”
He refused to comment on a question whether both the bowlers were abstained from going to the West Indies due to fear of testing positive again. “It is a matter of Pakistan Cricket Board but one thing we know is that there should be zero tolerance on doping. Our appeal is pending in the court and we are hopeful of a fair decision,” Donze concluded.—Agencies
