Former PNCB chief dies

ISLAMABAD, March 5: Mairaj Husain, former Chairman Pakistan Narcotics Control Board and Inspector-general of Police (retired), passed away at a local hospital on Monday evening at the age of 83. He was suffering from pneumonia and chest infection and admitted to Shifa International Hospital two weeks ago. His body was flown to Karachi in the night and will be laid to rest at the Sakhi Hasan Graveyard, North Nazimabad.

He is survived by wife, two sons. The late Mairaj Husain did his M.A. LLB from Meerut University and joined the All India Muslim League as a councillor before partition.

After partition he joined the Pakistan Police Service in 1949 and rose to the rank of IG Police. He retired as Chairman Pakistan Narcotics Control Board in 1985.
