LAHORE, March 4: Rank outsider chestnut colt, Gold Krik, sprang a big surprise by winning the four-year-old Pakistani colts and fillies’ Pakistan Derby 2007 at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by Mohsin Ali Asghar and trained by Iftikhar Ahmed, Gold Krik surpassed the favourites by four-and-a-half lengths under the command of jockey Salahuddin.

There was a massive betting plunge on the even-money favourite Toru Khan, ridden by jockey Aamir Pervez, who finished second.

The second favourite, Big Show claimed third place, after being nosed out by Toru Khan on the finishing line.

Top Cat the mount of jockey M. Hanif completed the frame, another three lengths behind.

Ten colts and fillies competing in the race ran slowly and completed the distance of 2400metres in two minutes 38 4/5 seconds. This was fifth race of the day.

In the sixth race of the day, imported mare Grecianette after a heroic running display won the ICI Lahore Classic Cup gone over 2000metres. It was owned by Syed Pervez Hussain Shah and trained by Sohail Aziz.

Jockey Shahid Rehman guided her to beat another imported mare, Miss Thailand by two lengths. Grecianette clocked two minutes 4 1/5 seconds.

Brummell and Dexterity completed the board among seven runners.

Earlier in the fourth race, Haji Ghulam Dastagir's bay colt, Fair Diamond spurted home ahead of the field to win the National Breeders Cup run over 1400metres. He beat Headingley by six lengths while the other five colts and fillies came staggering far behind.

Trained by Mushtaque Ali Khan, the winner covered the distance in one minute 27 seconds.

Asif Ali Khan's colt Jasrah galloped home to win the Stewards Cup contested over 1400metres.

Ridden smartly by jockey M. Hanif the bay colt beat Para Game by five lengths.

Golden Goal and Noor finished third and fourth.

The bay colt Prince Of Bhakkar fought off a late charge by Chill to win the LRC Cup, run over the sprinting distance of 1200metres.

Jockey Shahid Rehman was the undisputed hero of the Derby Day races by bringing home four winners — Gold Medallist, Sodagar, Grecianette and Flying Pet.

Trainer Sohail Aziz sent out three winners, namely Sodagar, Grecianette and Flying Pet.
