Celebratory fire kills two sisters

FAISALABAD, March 4: Two minor sisters were killed and an old man sustained injuries when guests at a wedding ceremony resorted to celebration fire in the vicinity of Dijkot police station on Sunday.

Reports said during the wedding ceremony of one Younis’ daughter at Chak 274-RB, some of the guests, believed to be drunk, opened fire.

Resultantly, ten-year-old Sidra and her younger sister Nida, daughters of Khalil Ahmed of the same village, were hit by bullets and killed on the spot. Mohammad Siddique, 70, of the same area, also received bullet injuries and was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. The accused managed to escape.

The girls’ bodies were removed to the hospital for autopsy.

Police concerned are investigating the matter. No case was registered till the filing of this report. encounter: The Sargodha Road police claimed on Sunday to have killed a dacoit and arrested his accomplice during an encounter.

On a tip-off, the police spotted a vehicle near the gas office on Sargodha Road. Seeing the police, the motorists opened fire. During a shootout, a man identified as Irfan of Chichawatni was killed and his accomplice Sohail of Khanewal sustained injuries. The police arrested him.

Police said a man from Jhang informed that Irfan and Sohail had robbed him and a case was registered against them. The accused wanted to strike a deal for withdrawal of the case and the gas office was fixed the meeting point.
