KARACHI: Postponement of elections not MQM’s demand

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 4: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement coordination committee convener, Dr Imran Farooq, has said the party did not demand postponement of forthcoming general election.

In a press statement issued from London on Sunday, Dr Imran Farooq said the statement issued by Federal Minister for Port and Shipping, Babar Ghauri for postponement of general election was his “personal opinion as a federal minister.”

“It’s not the policy statement of the MQM nor the party demanded postponement,” he said adding that Mr Ghauri is representing the federal cabinet and he knew about the challenges faced by the country during the prevailing situation in the region.

Due to his oath as federal minister, he said, Mr Ghauri could not say anything or discuss details of the cabinet meetings to his party. The minister had stated this in his personal capacity, he added.
