KARACHI, March 4: The Pakistan Women Lawyers Association (Pawla) has called for abolishing laws which had proved un-Islamic and discriminatory against women.

Speaking at a training workshop, organised jointly by Pawla and Mafad-e-Niswan Trust, Humaira Chhapra, Abida Mehmood and Sultana Perveen regretted these laws were still in force and had been causing problems to the women.

They said creating awareness of the women rights and dispensing justice on the basis of existing laws were not sufficient enough to bring a remarkable change in the society.

“The un-Islamic laws and infamous traditions do exist and were responsible for the discrimination being faced by womenfolk,” they argued. They said Pawla was striving to create awareness among women of their constitutional rights.—PPI
