KARACHI: More pedestrian bridges planned

KARACHI, March 4: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said the city government will build overhead pedestrian bridges near all newly completed bridges facilitating people to cross roads.

He was talking to a delegation of Karachi Transport Ittehad, led by its president Syed Irshad Ahmed Bukhari.

The meeting was also attended by DCO Fazlur Rehman, DIG Traffic Falak Khursheed, DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah, Korangi Town Nazim Muhammad Arif, TPO Korangi Sohail Zafar, EDO Transport Muhammad Athar and Sindh RTA Secretary Shamim Akhter.

The nazim underlined the need of identification of proper places for parking of buses.

Mr Kamal said such problems should be solved with the consensus between government and transporters.

The city nazim asked EDO Transport to visit Qayyumabad along with EDO Revenue, Korangi Town Nazim and two representatives of transporters and compile a comprehensive report to resolve the issue permanently.

Referring to a bus stop near Nazimabad Underpass, he asked transporters to avoid parking their vehicles as they were creating hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic and causing inconvenience to the shopkeepers.

He said the city government was constructing overhead pedestrian bridges and bus stops to provide maximum facilities to ensure hurdle-free traffic flow.

Irshad Ahmed Bukhari appreciated the performance of city government and assured the cooperation of transporters in this regard.—PPI
