KARACHI: Lawyers ask govt to appoint judges within one month

KARACHI, March 3: The lawyers’ fraternity has given the government one-month time to fill up all vacant seats of judges in the Sindh High Court and its subordinate courts, saying that after the expiry of the deadline, they would decide the further line of action if the demand was not met.
The issue was discussed at a meeting of the Sindh High Court Bar Association and the Karachi Bar Association on Saturday.
SBC vice-chairman Amin Lakhani and SCBA vice-president Khwaja Naveed Ahmed also attended the meeting.
The meeting noted that owing to inordinate delay in the appointment of judges on vacant seats, workload on incumbent judges had increased causing long delays and sufferings to litigants.
According to KBCA General Secretary, Naeem Qureshi, there are seven posts of judges in SHC and about 40 in its subordinate courts lying vacant for several years.
