ISLAMABAD, March 2: The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has convened a meeting of its central working committee here on Tuesday (March 6) to review arrangements and strategy for multi-party conference being hosted by the party in London on March 24 and 25.A source in the party told Dawn that the PML-N’s central body would also discuss the nature of future relationship with the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) after the decision of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto of not attending the MPC.
PPP president and ARD chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim on Thursday announced that Ms Bhutto would not participate in the MPC and she would nominate a high-level delegation to represent the party.
Mr Fahim said the PPP believed that the MPC was being convened before time and it should have been called after the disclosure of the government’s plan of President Gen Musharraf’s re-election. He said the PPP had told the senior PML-N leadership about Ms Bhutto’s decision in a meeting held at the residence of PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq on February 19.
On the other hand, PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal said that the PPP leaders during the February 19 meeting had not told them in categorical terms that Ms Bhutto would not attend the MPC and, instead kept them in a confusing situation.
Talking to Dawn here on Friday, PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal said the CWC meeting had been convened to review the current political situation in the country and to chalkout the party’s future strategy.
He said the forthcoming London MPC would definitely be at the top of the agenda and the CWC members would be asked to give their suggestions to make the conference a success.
