Pakistanis advance: Junior Davis Cup


ISLAMABAD, March 2: Khurram Nazir of Pakistan defeated Bangladesh’s Mufazzal Hossain in straight sets in pre-qualifying round of the Junior Davis Cup, according to reports available here from Bangladesh on Friday.

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh, Singapore and Jordan to enter the main qualifying round of the tournament.

In the Fed Cup, Singapore and Sri Lanka thrashed Pakistan girls and did not let Sarah Mahboob and Natasha Afridi win a single match.

DAVIS CUP:

Pakistan bt Bangladesh 2-1 (Khurram Nazir (PAK) bt Mufazzal Hossain (BAN) 6-3, 6-1; Heera Ashiq (PAK) lost to Omour Faruk Sunny (BAN) 1-6, 3-6; Heera & Khurram (PAK) bt Hossain & Sunny (BAN) 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 6-3).

Pakistan bt Jordan 2-1 (Sadan-ul-Haq (PAK) lost to Ahmed Hamez (JOR) 3-6, 3-6; Khurram Nazir (PAK) bt Fawwaz Samer (JOR) 7-5, 6-0; Heera Ashiq & Khurram Nazir bt Ahmed Hamez & Fawwaz Samer 6-3, 6-1).

Pakistan bt Singapore 2-1 (Heera Ashiq (PAK) bt Wee Han Felix (SIN) 6-4, 6-1; Khurram Nazir (PAK) lost to Abdul Hakim (SIN) 2-6, 2-6; Heera & Khurram (PAK) bt Dominic Boey & Abdul Hakim 7-6(11), 6-3).

FED CUP:

Singapore bt Pakistan 3-0 (Natasha Afridi lost to Li Yun Stefania TAN 0-6, 0-6; Sarah Mahboob lost to Celina Cassandra Goetti 1-6, 3-6; Natasha & Sarah lost to Carolyn Ann Hui & Li Yun 5-7, 5-7).
