Naveen steals show by piling first century break: National Snooker

KARACHI, March 2: Third seed Naveen Perwani stole the limelight by piling first century break in his straight 4-0 triumph against Balochistan qualifier Abdul Razzak Kakar in the 32nd National snooker championship at Karachi Gymkhana on Friday.
His splendid break of 115 came in the second frame as he was home 55-45, 135-8, 68-4 and 67-34 to register his second straight win. His victim on the opening day was NWFP’s Abdul Jalil who too, lost by the identical margin of 4-0.
Drawn in group ‘C’ Naveen, who could not go beyond quarter-final in the last National championship, is slated to meet Sindh’s Abdul Sattar on Sunday at 10am.
Top seed and defending champion, Khurram Agha, who survived a scare by winning the opener in decisive seventh frame against Mohammad Riaz was impressive in 4-0 win against Punjab’s Bilal Ahmed on the second day. Final scores were 77-19, 78-24, 88-7 and 64-33 with a break of 68 in the first frame.
Second seed Mohammad Yousuf also continued his winning streak by handing 4-1 defeat to Asim Ghani the scores being 64-29, 55-58, 62-4, 82-1 and 55-40.
The veteran cueist eased past former National champion, Farhan Mirza, 4-2 on Thursday.
Punjab’s Imran Shehzad, losing finalist of last National’s and fourth seed, maintained a clean with by getting the better of Shah Khan 4-0. He notched up straight win against Mohammad Ali Zaidi the other day.
