LAHORE, March 2: Wapda is striving to complete all its water and power sector projects in time by right of their utmost importance, particularly in the wake of the water and power shortage in the country.

Wapda chairman Tariq Hamid said this while presiding over a progress review meeting of the water wing at Wapda House here on Friday.

Member (Water) Muhammad Mushtaq and other senior officers presented progress reviews of their respective projects, according to a press release.

The Wapda chief said the timely completion of various water projects would serve the dual purpose of irrigating agriculture lands and generating electricity.

The meeting reviewed the progress on the implementation of various projects, including Sabakzai Dam, Rainee Canal, Greater Thal Canal, Kacchi Canal, Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD) I and III, Khan Khawar, Allai Khawar, and Duber Khawar Hydropower projects.

After the successful completion of Mirani Dam in November 2006, another mega project in Balochistan — Sabkazai Dam will also be inaugurated soon. This dam along with Kacchi Canal and Mirani Dam will contribute significantly to the economic uplift of Balochistan.

Two other main projects — Rainee Canal and BROD I and III — will add significantly to the development of agriculture in Sindh. It also reviewed the progress of other water/hydropower projects, including Satpara Dam, Diamer Basah Dam, Mangla raising, Gomal Zam Dam and Golen Gole (Chitral).—APP
