KARACHI, March 2: Commuters continue to suffer due to the closure of a portion of Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Road on account of the replacement of sewerage line.
The parking of vehicles in front of the Sindh Muslim Law College further adds to the problems as it hampers smooth vehicular movement towards the GPO and Burns roads thus causing congestion on the I.I Chundrigar Road as well.
The open manhole in the middle of Burnes Garden Road in front of SM Law College has further aggravated the situation.
The manhole has been without lid for quite some time, but the authorities concerned are least interested to take action in this regard.
Pushcarts and parked vehicles on the GPO Road also create problems for motorists.
The traffic police have declared the road from Jang Press to SM Law College one-way, but the motorists are still using it even in presence of the traffic officials.
During the peak rush hours, traffic situation gets more serious around the SM Law College intersection.
Traffic mess is always seen on Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Road, M.R. Kiyani Road near Shaheen Complex mainly due to the non-functional traffic signals.
The traffic personnel, when asked, said that the people were not cooperating.
He said that it was a temporary problem and urged the people to park their cars at a distance from the main intersection to avoid congestion.
A number of people suggested round-the-clock work on the sewerage line.
The contractor’s men on the site told that it was a six-month project up to the MCB Tower and would be completed before its stipulated time.
