KARACHI, March 1: The Sindh Assembly, which is meeting today (Friday) in a session requisitioned by the joint opposition, is likely to witness fireworks when issues like rigging in the by-elections in NA-250 Karachi and PA-71 Jamshoro are taken up for discussion.

The last session, which was the first session of the new parliamentary year and was summoned by the governor on February 19, was also prorogued soon after administering oath to Mujeeb Shah, the newly elected member of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League from PS-71 as the members sitting on the opposition benches started a noisy protest. In that session, there was a rumpus in the House when Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah called the newly elected members to take his oath. The other memberwho was administered oath was Dr Shanker Lal, who was elected on a minority seat on the ticket of Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

The very next day after prorogation of the session, the joint opposition deposited their requisition with more than 40 members requesting the speaker to summon the assembly to discuss the worsening law and order situation, attacks on PPP leaders and workers during the by-elections on February 10, the price increase and gang rape issues in addition to rigging in the by-election,.

According to insiders, both sides in the House, the treasury and the opposition had done their necessary home work to counter each other. However, if the members on either side failed to restrained themselves from emotional outbursts, it was likely that the situation would ultimately lead to pandemonium and either end in adjournment of the House till Monday or its prorogation without taking up the formal agenda for which the House was summoned by the Speaker.
