PPP, PML-N leaders to discuss MPC declaration today

By Amir Wasim

ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: A committee of the People’s Party Parliamentarians and the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) will meet here on Thursday to finalise a draft of the declaration to be issued by the forthcoming multi-party conference (MPC) of opposition parties in London on March 24 and 25.

It will be the second meeting of the four-member committee of the two parties after the PPP’s confirmation of its participation in the MPC and announcement of the final dates of the event.

The committee comprising Leader of Opposition in the Senate Raza Rabbani and Senator Dr Safdar Abbasi of the PPP and PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal met on February 26 and discussed broad outlines of the joint declaration to be adopted at the MPC.PML-N Senator Ishaq Dar, who is the second member of the PML-N team, could not attend the meeting as he was abroad.

He will also be not present in the Thursday’s meeting.

Talking to Dawn on Wednesday, PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal expressed the hope that the meeting would be the last one.

Mr Iqbal claimed that there were no differences between the two parties on any issue and they were holding meetings so that a rough draft of the MPC’s declaration could be prepared.
