KHAIRPUR, Feb 28: Chairman of the Sindh National Front (SNF), Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, has said that resources of Sindh, including its land and islands, are being snatched and a dangerous situation has been created which is threatening the existence of Sindh.
Speaking at a public gathering at Phool Bagh here on Wednesday, he said that there had been a curfew-like situation in Larkana and its adjoining areas for the last 20 days in the backdrop of President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s public gathering in Larkana.
Mr Bhutto said that the situation proved hat General Musharraf was afraid of people as his government was unpopular.
He said that on the left side of River Indus, a gathering of ‘enemies of Sindh and Sindhi people’ was being held while on the right side, lovers of Sindh and pro-people elements were holding a rally.
He alleged that the administration of Sindh had been handed over to ‘terrorists’ and the districts were being bifurcated at their behest.
He said that public transport in the entire Sindh were impounded and the people made hostage to make the president’s show in Larkana a success.
He said that General Musharraf had come to power with a seven-point agenda but later backed out of his commitment.
He said that the two wings of police viz; operation and investigation, were known for bribery and promotion of crime and said that police were supporting the criminals.
He said that the police usually conducted operation against the criminals through constables whose salary was not over Rs3,000 and questioned why constables should put their lives at stake for such a meagre remuneration.
He said law and order situation in Sindh was at its lowest ebb and street crime had become order of the day in the province.
He said that Sindhis had brought a revolutionary change through their continued struggle for rights. He said that his party's objective was not to get power but to protect the rights of Sindh and Sindhi people.
He said that he would visit all districts of Sindh under the campaign of “Sindhi Jago, Sindh Bachayo” launched by his party.
He urged the nationalist parties to unite on one platform, saying it was the need of the hour. He advised the sons of soil to unite to protect their motherland.
He said the centre was using Sindh's revenues for its survival and regretted step-motherly treatment meted out to Sindh.
He said that Kalabagh Dam was a matter of life and death for people of Sindh and added: “We would either succeed to stop construction of Kalabagh Dam or become martyrs”.
Earlier, the SNF chairman was brought to Phool Bagh from reached Therhi in a big caravan comprising cars, jeeps and motorcycles.
