Warrants for arrest of PML-N men

By Our Correspondent

SIALKOT, Feb 27: A Daska civil judge on Tuesday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of five PML-N leaders for not appearing before the court.

Bambaanwala police had registered a case against MNA Khwaja Muhammad Asif, former MNA Sahibzada Syed Iftikharul Hasan, former MPA Idrees Ahmad Bajwa, former MPA Mansha Ullah Butt and Shujaat Ali Pasha who had a clash with police when they halted them from going to Lahore to receive PML-N president Mian Shahbaz Sharif in 2004.

The court ordered police to arrest and produce them in the court on April 4.

However, police have not yet arrested them.

BAJWAT VILLAGES: The ordeal of the residents of Bajwat’s 85 villages continued for the 12th successive day on Tuesday as they remained cut off from the rest of the district.

The wooden belly bridge over Tavi near Saidpur collapsed due to a spate in the river caused by fresh spell of heavy rains in Sialkot district and the catchment areas in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The villagers recently built the bridge on self-help basis after waiting for several months for the government help. The bridge collapsed in December 2006, due to flood in the river.

When contacted, Sialkot DCO Maj Rizwanullah Baig (retired) said the district administration was making efforts for the early repair of the bridge.

JASHN-I-SIALKOT: The Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has announced a week-long Jashn-i-Sialkot from March 26 to 31.

Sialkot tehsil nazim Imtiaz Dar told newsmen on Tuesday that Horse and Cattle Show, flower show, dog show, musical show, mushaira, senior citizens walks and evening with the special children would be part of the festivities.

He said an industrial exhibition would be held in which industrialists from Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Multan and other cities would display their products.

He said Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and Governor Khalid Maqbool would inaugurate these celebrations.

CONVICTED: The Daska additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday sentenced two brothers to death with Rs100,000 fine each for killing their brother-in-law.

Brothers Imran and Irfan murdered their brother-in-law Maqsood Iqbal over a domestic dispute in Koreyki, Satrah, on July 17, 2004.

EXECUTED: A convict was hanged in the Sialkot district jail on Tuesday.

Convict Bashir had killed Salamat in Narowal over a land dispute in 1998.
