100,000 to get skills training
ISLAMABAD, Feb 27: Training will be provided to at least 100,000 people during the current year and one million by 2010 to bridge the growing skills gap in the country.
This was stated in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz which reviewed progress of the National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (Navtec).
The meeting was told that the skills gap was expected to grow in view of the increasing job opportunities and the challenge was to scale up the efforts to prepare the people for employments both in the country and abroad.
Navtec Chairman Altaf Saleem said 26,000 people were currently getting training in livestock, health, domestic appliances, construction, food preparation, domestic services, paramedics, beauty and health, agriculture and services sectors.
