ASI shot dead on resistance

GUJRANWALA, Feb 26: An assistant sub-inspector was shot dead by unidentified dacoits on offering resistance on Sialkot Road here on Monday.

Reports said ASI Nasir Ahmad of Ahmad Shah Nagri along with his minor son Abdul Nabi was on his way to police lines in civvies by a motorcycle. Near Khokherki locality, some dacoits intercepted him and shot him dead on offering resistance while his son remained unhurt. He has six children. Satellite town police have registered a case and are investigating.

EXECUTION: Two condemned prisoners will be executed on Tuesday (today).

According to the prosecution, Munir and his cousin Rukhsar had killed four people, including a woman, in Phalia (Mandi Bahauddin) in 1996 over some dispute. The anti-terrorism court No 1 had awarded them death sentence. The LHC and the SC had upheld the decision. The president rejected their mercy appeals. Munir will be executed in Gujranwala jail and Rukhsar in Gujrat.

SECURITY STEPS: The local anti-corruption court seized mobile phones from its officials before proceedings and later handed the same to them after the court time as a security measure, it was learnt here on Monday.

Meanwhile, the district and sessions judge has directed all court employees to display their identity cards and badges.
