KARACHI, Feb 26: Residents of various localities of Orangi Town have complained of water shortage and accused officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board of not taking notice of the problem.
During a survey of the affected areas, it was observed that damaged pipelines in Sector 4/D, Bijli Nagar, Hussainabad, and Al-Fateh Colony were responsible for the shortage.
Residents of these localities stated that they were experiencing low pressure or suspension of supply since long.
Owing to low pressure, they were not able to fill up their overhead water tanks.
They pointed out that water supply to these localities had not been curtailed, but a substantial quantity was going waste on the way due to the damaged pipelines.
They said that they had lodged many complaints with the KWSB officials in Orangi Town who did acknowledge the problem but nothing had been done so far to repair the damaged pipelines.
They apprehended that the localities might face a water crisis in summer if remedial measures were not taken immediately.
They also pointed out that water gushing out of the ruptured pipelines and flowing on a recently-carpeted road between Mominabad Police Station and the local graveyard was causing heavy damage to the artery.
