KARACHI, Feb 26: Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari on Monday inaugurated the new building of the Government Mono-Technic Institute, Lyari Town.

Built on 29,400 square feet, the building has cost about Rs60 million. Its foundation was laid by the minister on June 21, 2006. It consists of classrooms, a science hall, an administration block, a workshop, a library etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Shoaib Bukhari said that with the construction of this building one more promise of MQM chief Altaf Hussain had been fulfilled.

He said the building was to be completed in June 2007, but because of Altaf Hussain's love for education and due to his personal effort, it was completed four months ahead of the stipulated time.

Mr Bukhari said that the Sindh government was making efforts to have more and more modern technical institutions so as to produce increased number of skilled force.

He described the institute a gift for the Lyariites from Altaf Hussain and said now it was for the people of Lyari to protect it.

The minister said the institute's telecommunication department provided the facilities of the network system, electronic equipment and computers.

He said in the first year, 60 students would be given admission and this number would be increased gradually.

On the occasion, the minister was accompanied by MPAs Syed Tayyab Hussain Hashmi and Fareeda Baloch.—APP
