MULTAN, Feb 24: A nephew of the PPP’s Kabirwala tehsil president was shot dead early on Saturday morning by a police patrol team in Mian Channu, Khanewal district.
Reports said that Tahir Iqbal Babar, brother of PPP leader Iqbal Babar, and his nephew Qaisar Islam of Abdul Hakeem locality were going to collect Amir Shafique, the cousin of deceased Qaisar, by their car (319-MLL) from Tea Chowk via Katcha Khoh Road. Tahir said that they spotted a police patrol van near Khaliqabad. After covering some distance, they felt that they were being chased by dacoits. In a bid to reach out of their access, they tried to accelrate. But the police opened indiscriminate fire on their vehicle, killing Qaisar Islam instantly.
Tahir said that the marriage procession of the deceased was to leave for Pir Mahal on Saturday. To stop them, he said the police could have burst the tyres of their vehicle.
DSP (Patrol) Sajjad Hussain Gujjar said that one Mukhtar Ahmed had informed the patrol police that he was going to Faisalabad when some people tried to snatch his vehicle near Hanuman Garh.
On his information, he said the police patrol party followed the vehicle, but the occupants opened fire on law enforcers. The DSP said the police also returned the fire which resulted in the killing of Qaiser.
Khanewal Katch Khoh police have registered a case under section 319 against ASI Tassawer Hussain and constables Ahsan, Naeem and Nawaz.
Meanwhile, the LPG Distributors Association, in a statement in Lahore, demanded immediate arrest of policemen involved in killing of Qaiser, a LPG distributor.
Association chairman Irfan Khokhar said in a statement that the LPG distributor was shot dead when some policemen riding a patrol van resorted to indiscriminate firing on his vehicle.
BAILIFF: A bailiff recovered an 11-year-old boy from Kabirwala City police station on Saturday.
Kaneez Bibi, grandmother of orphan Safdar Husain, a resident of Mauza Koraywala, lodged a petition in the court of Khanewal district and session’s judge that police have detained her grandson without any reason.
The judge appointed a bailiff who produced the boy in the court.
Police station Muharar told the bailiff that Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar Ali has detained the boy. There was case registered against the boy.
The court released the boy and summoned police station SHO with record on March 5.
