Beeline for education expo

By Khawar Ghumman

ISLAMABAD, Feb 24: Scores of students seeking higher education in known international universities made a beeline for the two-day Dawn Education Expo 2007 that opened here at the Jinnah Convention Centre on Saturday.

Young students, both male and female, were listening to the delegates of different universities with grasping attention, inquiring about the admission requirements for the courses of their choice.

Now in its fourth year, the expo has invited faculty, admission officers and career counsellors from over 100 leading local and international universities to facilitate young minds looking for admission in various disciplines.

A record number of over 50 British universities have set up their stall, along with educational institutions from Australia, Canada, USA, the UAE, France, Ireland, Malaysia, South Korea, and Poland.

The expo has been able to create a niche for itself among the student community, particularly those interested in getting foreign qualification.

Having become an annual event, now students wait for the expo that was being attended by more and more universities.

“It is amazing. One can have interview with the representatives of a university of his/her own choice to sort out admission formalities under one roof. Some universities are offering on the spot admissions,” a female student remarked.

They (university delegates) are ready to explain every minor detail regarding admissions, which is only possible during one-on-one discussions, she added.

In terms of students turnout, this year’s expo is far more successful than previous ones, an organiser said. Special security measure were taken to ward off any untoward incident.
