KARACHI, Feb 24: Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has taken serious note of the disclosure by the killer of a Punjab woman minister that he had tried to kill former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in Wazirabad in 1994.
According to a press release issued here on Saturday, Mr Khuhro said it was ironic that despite his confession, the regime had not registered any case against him. “It is now clear that the regime’s character was involved in the whole episode,” he said, adding that a fanatic, who had reportedly gunned down 12 innocent women, had astonishingly escaped proper investigations and had gone scot-free.
He appealed to human rights bodies to take the issue seriously as the life of moderate and liberal political leaders was at stake due to criminal approach of the regime, which seemed hands in glove with the fanatic killers and extremists. The PPP leader demanded setting up of a high level judicial commission to probe into the killings by the fanatic to lay bare all criminal elements who patronised and backed him, besides ensuring a freehand for him to kill people at will.
Meanwhile, President of PPP Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has condemned police raids on the residence of Pir Syed Adhal Shah Jilani, a PPP leader in Khairpur.
He demanded immediate action against the police officers involved in the illegal raids.
