In the first incident, Mehbooba Bibi, a mother of three and the second wife of Shaher Khan, was allegedly shot dead by Gul Saira Bibi, the first wife of her husband, on Friday.

Police said Gul Saira, a mother of five, had a quarrel with Mehbooba during which she shot her with a 30-bore pistol.

The woman managed to escape from the scene. The police have registered a murder case and started searching for the alleged killer.

In another incident, a 19-year-old girl committed suicide by taking an overdose of pills apparently over a marriage dispute in Dhoke Kala Khan on Friday.

Preliminary police investigations suggested that the girl’s parents were marrying her off against her will. This drove her into distress and made her commit suicide.
