Conference on press freedom today

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23: Journalists and politicians will discuss media-related issues at a roundtable conference on “State of Press Freedom in Pakistan” here on Saturday.

Interior and information ministers, Aftab Sherpao and Mohammad Ali Durrani, respectively, will also speak on the occasion, said a press release.

The event, which has been organised jointly by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ), will be held at Hotel Holiday Inn at 3:30pm.

The participants will also hold a discussion on the topic ‘‘Pressure and threats, media law challenges, and working environment and wages”.

International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) President Christopher Warren, National Union of Journalists (NUJ) United Kingdom President Chris Morely, Editor the Telegraph, India, Bharat Bhushan, Convener Free Media Movement (FMM) Sunanda Dishyapria and representative of Paris-based organisation Reporters Sans Frontiers (RSF) Iqbal Khattak will participate in the roundtable.

Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Pervez Shaukat, journalist Nasir Zaidi, former All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation (Apnec) chairman Abdul Hamid Chapra, city editors will also speak on the occasion.

Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed (MMA), Mushahid Hussain Syed (PML), Raja Zafarul Haq (PML-N) and Ishaq Dar (PML-N) will also speak on the occasion.
