KARACHI, Feb 23: The Pakistan Peoples Party on Friday finalised a list of its possible candidates from Sindh constituencies for the upcoming general elections. The final list emerged after a lengthy exercise that lasted three days.

Since Wednesday, the PPP had been holding meetings to examine the particulars and performance of the aspirants for the party ticket. The meetings were held under the directive of PPP Chairperson and a former prime minister Ms Benazir Bhutto.

The third and last meeting of the series was held on Friday at Bilawal House where the short-listed candidates for the national and provincial assembly constituencies in Karachi came under discussion. PPP Vice-Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim chaired the meeting which lasted over eight hours.

The short-listed candidates from all five defunct districts of the Karachi Division were named during the meeting.

Party sources said that the list would now undergo further revision at the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) and Federal Council (FC).

A party spokesman said that the meetings were being held as part of the electoral survey whereas a final decision would be taken by the PPP’s Parliamentary Election Board, headed by Ms Benazir Bhutto.

Those who attended the Friday meeting included Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Aftab Shaaban Mirani, Ms Sherry Rehman, Nisar Khuhro, Safdar Abbasi, Ms Naheed Khan, Nafees Siddiqui, Taj Haider, N. D. Khan, Kamal Azfar and Waqar Mehdi, besides party legislators and office-bearers.
