KARACHI, Feb 23: The Adviser to Sindh Governor, Fatima Surriya Bajia, and the Adviser to Chief Minister on Home Affairs, Waseem Akhtar, jointly inaugurated a three-day Women’s Expo at the Karachi Expo Centre on Friday.
The event has been jointly organised by 4th Dimension Pvt Ltd in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Development, Smeda and German Agency for Technical Cooperation.
Over 150 corporate sector exhibitors and 50 women artisans and entrepreneurs from Hyderabad, Quetta, Haripur, Skardu, Gilgit, D.G. Khan and quake-hit areas have set up their stalls displaying handicrafts and products related to beauty and personal care, home décor and comfort.
Fatima Surriya Bajia appreciated the initiative and said this platform would expose business women to newer ideas and help explore more opportunities.
“It’s very nice to see that women have done something for women. While we try to go along with the modern world, we shouldn’t forget our culture and religious values. Empowerment of women does not mean having an antagonistic attitude towards men but rather supporting each other and becoming a productive member of society,” she observed.
She was all praise for the organisers especially those who have set up stalls displaying indigenous products such as handmade accessories, embroidered clothes and decoration items.
Waseem Akhtar said the exhibition would not only help boost the country’s economy but also its image which had been tarnished by terrorism.
“This initiative would encourage disadvantaged sections of society and contribute towards strengthening economy,” he said. Stalls were set up by people from all the four provinces, which would help promote inter-provincial harmony, he added.
The exhibition aims to develop a national women’s interactive platform to integrate all those working for women’s development.
A number of activities have been planned for the event. During the exhibition, experts would provide tips to visitors about health and nutrition, beauty and fitness and home management.—Our Reporter
