KARACHI: Power failures hit various localities

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 23: People in various localities of the city continued to experience power failures on Friday. A resident of Karachi University Staff Colony said power supply to the township was suspended at 11am and restored after two-and-a-half hours causing great troubles and disruption in Juma prayers.

A consumer from North Nazimabad said that power failures had become a routine matter in the town as the KESC had been suspending supply to several localities for 20 to 30 minutes every day. “It is tolerable to some extent, but the KESC must improve its distribution system to rid its consumers of frequent and prolonged breakdowns,” he added.

Residents of Liaquatabad, Zeenat Square and FC Area said that power supply was suspended at 7.30pm and was not restored till late night.

A KESC source said that two units of the Bin Qasim power station were not working properly and that was one of the reasons leading to the disruption in supply to certain areas. He said that due to a shortfall in power generation, the power utility had to suspend supply in some cases in addition to the notified schedule.
