Transporters protest

GUJRANWALA, Feb 22: Transporters of Wahando area on Thursday staged a demonstration outside the office of deputy inspector general (DIG) of police (operation) to protest the killing of one of their colleagues allegedly by som extortionists.

The protestors said they would continue their wheel jam strike until the accused were arrested. They shouted slogans against the extortionists, who had allegedly killed Muhammad Akram for not paying ‘jagga tax’.

They dispersed peacefully after the DIG assured them that the accused would be arrested within 24 hours.

BANNED: Entry of almost all vehicles and motorcycles in the district and sessions court has been banned while stickers issued to some vehicles allowing them entry have been cancelled.

The decision to this effect was taken in a meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of the district and sessions judge and the DIG (operations).
