KARACHI: People complain of contaminated water supply

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 22: Residents of various localities of Gulshan Town and old city areas, including Kharadar, have complained of supply of contaminated water to their households, and said they had no choice but to stop using the water, even for ablution.

Complaints of the sewage-mixed water supply were received from Daulat Ram, Nishtar Basti, Furqanabad and Goharabad localities where residents said the situation persisted for the last two weeks.

They said that the main cause of the water getting contaminated was the ruthless digging in connection with the development work under way in these areas and damage being caused to the sewerage lines.

Residents of old city area said that water being supplied from the Jaffar Fudoo Water Pump was contaminated, brackish and sewage-mixed. They said that despite their repeated complaints, the authorities concerned had taken no remedial steps.

The KWSB chief engineer in Gulshan Town, when contacted, said that no one had so far reported the problem to him.
