Gas pipeline blown up

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Feb 21: The supply of gas to the main purification plant in Sui was affected as militants blew up a pipeline supplying gas to the plant from the Sui gas field.

The incident took place on Tuesday night. The militants planted a powerful explosive device beneath the pipeline and blew it up. A two-feet portion of the 8-inch diameter pipeline from well No32 was damaged in the explosion.

However, sources in the Sui plant while confirming the incident said that the functioning of the plant was not affected as it was also getting supply from other wells.

The gas supply was not affected to any area, they said.

Meanwhile, the gas supply was restored to the four affected districts — Mastung, Kalat, Pishin and Ziarat — on Wednesday morning by the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited after repairing the damaged pipeline that had been blown up early Tuesday morning in Akhtarabad, a suburb of Quetta.

A private power plant that was shut down on Tuesday morning also started functioning.

Meanwhile, the rail traffic between Quetta and rest of the country was restored on Wednesday morning after repairing the damaged rail track.
