‘World Cup a great challenge for India’

MUMBAI, Feb 21: The 2007 World Cup provides great challenge and opportunity for the Indian team as it was the pinnacle of one-day cricket in the world and is a quadrennial event, skipper Rahul Dravid said.

“We will try and give our very best which comes once in four years. Everyone in the team is excited,” Dravid stated.

Dravid added that it was a relief in some ways that the mega event was close at hand after teams of newsprint and bytes unleashed by media in build-up.

“In some ways it’s a relief the World Cup finally arrived after the amount of discussions that took place on TV and newspapers in the last many months which is understandable in a World Cup year. We are finally going out and performing on the field,” he said.

He expressed that captaining (the Indian side) had been an exciting experience for him in the last 16 to 18 months, saying, “I'm sure Tendulkar and Ganguly will agree (with his views).”—Agencies
