MIDDLESBROUGH (England), Feb 19: England fast bowler Liam Plunkett was banned from driving for 20 months on Monday after pleading guilty to drunk driving.

The 21-year-old cricketer was also fined 2,000 pounds (US$3,900; euro2,900) by Teesside Magistrates' Court in Middlesbrough, north England.

Plunkett, a member of England's squad for next month's World Cup in the Caribbean, was found to be more than twice over the legal alcohol limit when police stopped him in Yarm, north England, on Oct 19.

“I am extremely sorry for what I did and there is no excuse for it,” Plunkett said in a statement.—AP
